I’ve been working on this blog article for a while, and before last night, I wasn’t sure exactly what it’s title should be. When the pastor during his sermon yesternight declared, “wake up and do something about your life,” I just knew, in that very moment, “there goes my headliner.”

As I shared in my post from last week, I was on a roller coaster ride of life, where my existence was so much defined by how much I was producing at work, and how much I was producing for my PhD. I wasn’t concerned about much else, except checking things off my goals list and going through the grind of life. Like most super ambitious people, I was doing and doing, and was doing it extremely well! Except, life was passing me by; except, I was rushing and running everywhere; except, I had forgotten the excellency of the Spirit working inside of me; except, I wasn’t inspired by much and just honestly felt like I was just going through the everyday motions of life: school, work, work, school, sleep, eat, wake up, school, school family, school, work, work, sleep, friends, school, travel, work, party, school, family, work.

As I spent more and more time building myself up spiritually, I came head to head with the ugliness that had become my life! Yes, my resume was looking great, and money was steadily trickling in, but where was my passion for life? How come I couldn’t feel my world and humanity like I used to? How come writing poetry and spoken word wasn’t a natural phenomenon like it used to be? How come I was watching so much TV? How come I couldn’t get myself to even simply write about things I was passionate about?

As someone who lives and thrives by inspiration, I knew it was time for me to wake up and do something about my life. Even though life wasn’t bad at all, I knew that it could be so much better! Because I had once been there, I knew what it meant to wake up inspired, and I knew at what level I could operate, if I was inspired everyday, by my purpose, and by my life! The ugliness of life I referred to above, was pretty much my lack of awareness, development and growth in different areas of my life! I had to shame the devil and get back control over my whole life!

I knew that the journey to get that place again would be a difficult one, but I had to start somewhere! I also knew that once I was there, I wouldn’t regret it! Like I shared with you on Instagram and Facebook just this morning, To whom much is given, much is expected! Each one of us is fearfully and wonderfully made with talents, traits, and abilities that are unique to each one of us! But, the only way to grow our kingdom, and to reap fruits from the seeds we have sown, is for us to remain grateful and to be effective and and efficient with what we have already been given.

Time waits for no one. Don’t waste your time, don’t waste your skills and don’t waste, or take for granted, the vision that you have have for your life!

You know yourself better than anyone else, and as such, know why you need to wake up and do something about your life. You know exactly where you need to make those changes so I encourage you to start. There is that old and wise saying that goes “If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.” Do that which you have never done, and see those changes come to life! I promise you, it will make a world of a difference.

Six months into this “wake up and do something about your life” plan, and I already see some major transformations in my myself. Even though there are some days that I really have to right for it I back to living my inspiration, I have so much more energy (I am naturally an energetic person, so you can just imagine), I am more productive, I am more aware about how I feel, I am more honest about how I feel, I am on most days (it’s not everyday) more effective and efficient with my work, my home is much happier, I am aware about the value of time, I listen to my body, I hear my spirit, I am reflective about my purpose, I am more organized, and I even watch less TV (even though that one honestly makes me a little sad, I had to stop with the binge watching though so I’m happy).

5 habits of super ambious ano effective people that will help you wake up and do something about your life!

1. Be spiritually connected through prayer and meditation.

Being spiritually connected means you grow your spiritual life and learn to listen to the voice of God! You spend enough time praying and reading the Good Word that you are assured of the direction you need to take in your life, every single day. You seek for guidance for the plans that you have, from the Master who knows all the plans that He has for you! You pray, and you pray earnestly. You spend time in meditation; in silence. That way you can hear the voice of the Master and what it is communicating to your spirit. Make this the most important aspect of your habits, and I promise you inspiration will flow, and your purpose will manifest in ways you could never have imagined.

2. Wake up early. It will change your life.

Like most people, I love to sleep in. But when I decided to make changes in my life, I knew that one of the first things I had to stop doing was waking up right on time to get ready and leave the house. I was always rushing and I didn’t like it. I am a sucker for biographies, and most of the ones I have read on successful people, include a common interest and commitment to waking up at the crack of dawn. It took a lot of discipline and prayers before I could even start but when I did, I initially started with 6 a.m. and have recently “upgraded” to 5.30 a.m. I think I’ll leave it at that for a while but what I can tell you for sure is that there is something incredibly inspiring in waking up before the rest of the world does. At those early hours, there is a certain silence and a peace in the world, that allows me to spiritually start the day in a way that leaves me inspired, and spiritually sound. I no longer feel the need to rush because I have all the time for everything, I’ve always wanted to do in the morning. Prayer, meditation, work out = sound mind.

3. Show gratitude!

We all have so much to be thankful for. Showing gratitude allows you to unplug from negative energy and plug into beautiful optimistic moments that remind you of all the goodness in you life. No matter how bad the situation may look, there is always something to be grateful for. Show more gratitude, and you will see yourself wake up to a life you have always imagined for yourself.

4. Get your life organized and take care of all aspects of your life.

Stop watching hours on hours of TV all because you want to relax. That is not an acceptable excuse. Yes, you can watch TV and of course once in a while you can binge, but it cannot be your everyday habit. Get your life organized, and start to take care of every aspect of your life. Take care of yourself spiritually, mentally, emotionally, intellectually, physically. Is there a book you have been wanting to read? How are you handling stress? Are you aware about your feelings? Are you keeping up with your fitness goals? How about your house, is it arranged in way that gives you peace? I am guilty guilty guilty of cultivating certain aspects of my life without reaching a balance and seeing to that I am succeeding everywhere. I used to have a bad habit of ignoring anything to do with my house: cooking, cleaning, laundry, you name it. But as things changed about me, so did these aspects! It’s important to be balanced in all aspects.
Don’t fool yourself as there is no such thing as a weekend off especially when you are wanting to be the best of who you are. There should be no such thing as I will lie in bed all weekend this weekend. Yes, maybe once in a while when your body is begging for it, but not every weekend friends. Time is money! Use it wisely.

5. Be reflective everyday.

Each one of us has at some point in our lives echoed the words, time flies. Time flies when you are not reflective about how you are spending each one of your days. I made a commitment this year that I would everyday be aware of how I spend my time, who I meet, and what I learn from the world. Some days are better than others, but I encourage you, before drifting off to sleep, think about your day. What were the highlights of your day, what were the things that left you momentary disappointed. What can you do better the following day? How can you love more, inspire more, give more? Start to declare great things for the next before it even comes around! Walk with the attitude that your today is better than your yesterday, and at attitude that your tomorrow will be better than your today. And remember to say what you mean and mean what you say. Life and death lie in the power of the tongue!
